I had an assignation with my new friend Stuart today. And I even recognised him with his clothes on! :)
We met for a coffee and chat, it was good to see him again and catch up with him and his news. But there was a reason for the meeting, we had *plans* to discuss! He's a member of a local writers group, and is going to give a talk to them in a few months time, about his experience of being drawn my me in December. He likes to tell amusing anecdotes, and I think his experience with me has fueled an interesting one for him! He likes to tell his friends and acquaintances about this episode in his life, so telling his writers group is the next step along this path! But the thing is................... he thinks it would be fun if I go along to this writers group too....... on the day he does his talk..................... and he thinks it would be good if I spoke too. But, and this is the bit I really like............. he's suggesting that he doesn't tell the audience of about 40 people that its me who he is talking about. And I think that is going to be.......................FUN!......... In that he will start telling them about being naked in the company of a woman who he had only met for the first time an hour previously, and then explain the reasons leading up to it, and the experience of it. And even produce the drawings in question. And I'm sure he'll add his embellishments that will make the story funny, and naughtily humorous, and I'm sure that his audience will laugh in all the right places, and be a little shocked at what he's done, and said. And as the laughter dies down, he will turn to me in the audience and introduce me as the erotic artist in question..................... and then it'll be MY turn to talk to them! I've got to think what I'm going to say, about me as and Erotic Artist, and painter of more vanilla subjects, and I want to make it amusing too, and want them to enjoy my talk as much as they'll enjoy Stuarts!
Not much pressure then!!!!! :)

Sounds like a blast and you'll be fine under the pressure! I know you'll be well received!
Trixie - Hope so, hope so, and hope so!! :)
That was nice that you were able to meet up with Stuart again, and even better that you recognised him with his clothes on, which was lucky given he might have then felt the need to strip off in the coffee shop! lol
It seems as though Stuart's session with you has certainly made a lasting impression on him, in a good way I hasten to add. I do think it is great though that he is so open about it and willing to talk about his session, even more so now he is actually going to give a talk about it. I will have to see what it does to me, perhaps by the end of the year I will have joined The Guild of Erotic Artists as a model!!! Then again...................
It does seem as though Stuart has given his idea a great deal of thought and given that he also seems to be quite the story teller I am sure it will all work extremely well, and as for his plan to have you in attendance that would seem to be the icing on the cake (virtual or real cake, you can take your pick!).
I know from your Blog that you have previously given a talk to a W.I. group, so I am guessing that public speaking isn't too much of an issue for you, or if it is, you are at least able to overcome any fears you might have? I am sure that with your flair for writing and the witty and interesting style you have, this will make your talk a great success as well and it is sure to be a memorable meeting for all concerned.
Personally, I have to say that I couldn't imagine anything more terrifying than talking to a group of people, regardless of the subject. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it makes the thought of posing in front of you for my commissions seem easy by comparison! See, public speaking scares me that much!!! At least you don't have to worry about me inviting you to give any talks.
Having said all that, this talk does of course give you access to around 40 people, more if you take into account their families and friends, some of whom might already have an interest in art and you never know some sales may come from it?
Fitzy - Yes, Stuarts session with me has left a lasting (good)impression, and I hope it does for you too. You never know, you might have the urge to do it again, in public the next time! (or at least for the Guild of Erotic Artists!).
Yes, Stuart is a good story teller, as for me being the icing on the cake, I'll let you know if its virtual or real AFTER I've done my talk and seen the reaction it has!
Yes, I did a talk for a local WI group, but can't say that its not an issue for me. But I think that it will be good for me, so will go along to the group and do the talk, and hopefully it will be witty and interesting for them if I think about what I'm going to say enough, beforehand.
Blimey, I must be scary then, if I'm slightly better than speaking publically, for you! :) But seriously, I know what you mean, its all part of the focus of attention being on you, when you may not be comfortable with it.
I'm not sure if the talk will bring any more work in for me, it MAY do, which is the main reason for doing it. And also the fact that opening new doors may bring other useful and interesting things my way. I suppose I'm thinking that writers may want their books illustrated, and I would be more than happy to do that for them. Its all good publicity for me, even though the subjects will be vanilla.
I am sure that the session will also leave a good and lasting impression with me too. As for a new career, we shall see............
You are certainly doing well then if you can do these talks even though you don't perhaps find them that easy. But as you say, as long as you prepare for it beforehand then I am sure you will be great!
Pleased you got the idea of what I was trying to say and I of course do not find you in the least bit scary, and talking with you last week was a huge help in putting my mind at ease.
I hadn't thought about book illustrations from the group being a potential source of work, so you had best make it a more vanilla talk then, with perhaps only a few chunks of naughtiness thrown in to give them a laugh!
Fitzy - I hope so, regarding the talk.
That's good to hear that talking to me has eased your mind. I certainly found you easy to talk to!
Its the thought of book illustrations that is the main reason for my interest in doing the talk. I'll work out on the day how much naughtiness they can stand, and adjust it accordingly with my talk. But I'm sure Stuart's talk beforehand, and their reaction to it, will give me a lot of guidance too. I'm not sure what the other writers write about, so there's no point me pushing the erotic art if they write stories about local history, or flower arranging! :) I'll have to see if I've got some suitable local landscapes and pictures of non scary subjects to take with me, to illustrate what *else* I do! :)
Well you survived the WI chat and that didn't involve jam recipes and knitting patterns. I'm sure you'll have a blast of a time!
Indigo - LOL, yes I did didn't I?! Hope so!! :)
I am sure you are right that you can gauge your talk and the level of naughtiness they can handle from how well they receive Stuart, and also his drawings if he does decide to bring them along.
A few non scary pieces of your work will of course be warmly received, but equally a few erotic ones need to be available given that you are going to be telling them you are an erotic artist, even if you then decide not to elaborate further due to the look of terror on their faces! lol
I am pleased I was easy to talk to as well and not too strange!!!
Fitzy - I'm sure Stuart will take the drawings I did of him, along with him since he's shown everyone he knows so far, and I'm sure the writing group will be included too! And that's true, I'll have to take some of the erotic drawings with me to show them what I do, so that they can understand the style of what I do, even if they don't like the content.
LOL - and I hope its not a look of *terror* on their faces - just intrige for the men, and probably blank faces for some of the women, although a few of them will certainly be interested going by my past experiences.
If your blog is any basis, you'll be a fascinating and amusing speaker, Jackie.
I think you'll do brilliantly!
Nitebyrd - Well thankyou kindly!!
I am sure you are right about the men being interested in your erotic work (well I am at least), but I think that because you are a women your erotic art is likely to receive a better reception from other women present as no doubt most of them would assume an erotic artist is likely to be a man so I am sure that will help.
Fitzy - Mmmm.. yes, you're perhaps right about that. More doors open for me because I'm a woman artist, you think?
We did have that conversation and I would think that being a female erotic artist would open more doors for you.
Fitzy - That's good to hear! :)
